1. Make savings automatically

If you don’t have an emergency fund, then this should be on top pf your priority list. Make it the first bill you pay each payday by having a particular amount transferred to your savings account from your checking account.

2. Control impulse spending

It is hard to let go of the urge to spend on eating out and online shopping. But this temptation is draining out your finances too. So learn to control your impulses on such expenditures.

3. Evaluate your expenses and live frugally

In case you have never done tracking your expenses then you should take the one month challenge. Then evaluate how you are spending your money and where can you cut down on expenses. Decide what is absolutely necessary and then eliminate the unnecessary ones.

4. Invest in your future

You are still young and earning well so you do not need to think about retirement, right? Wrong! It is important to plan for that later stage of life from now rather than leaving it for sometime later. The earlier you start, the better it will turn out later.

5. Keep your family secure

Your family depends on you so the first step is to get an emergency fund so that if things go wrong, you at least have the money. Next step should be to get a life insurance and a will too. You can also go for other insurances such as homeowner’s or renter’s insurance.

6. Eliminate and avoid debt

If you have credit cards, personal loans or any other debt then it is time you started working on a debt elimination plan. List your debts according to amounts and start working on how to eliminate them.

7. Use the envelope system

It may sound obsolete in this age of credit and debit cards but it is actually reliable. Just set aside money in envelopes for different purposes on your payday. This way, you can easily keep a track of your expenditures and also know if you are running short of money anywhere.

8. Pay bills automatically

It is a good habit to pay bills as soon as they come in. also, try to pay them through automatic deduction. This way, all your regular expenses will be taken care of.

9. Read about personal finances

The better knowledge you have about finances, the better will be your chances of managing yours. You will learn from others’ stories.

10. Grow your net worth

Do whatever it takes to increase your net worth even if it is reducing your debt, increasing your savings or income or all of them. Look for ways to make money and get paid for whatever you do.
